Pulaski Wisconsin 7-22-2010

Rain Rain go away. Come again another day and not to Pulaski Wisconsin at Polka Days weekend festival.

Bumpy airplane ride and delayed lines at Midwest to check in at the airport should have been our first clue to buckle up honey we not in Kansas any more.

We stopped off at Oliver Garden for a bowl of soup and salad. Middle of the summer and soup sounded good on a damp heavy rainy day.

After checking in the Comfort Inn and a quick lingering nap, it seemed a good day to sleep in and read a good book. But the Pulaski Polka Days Festival beckoned us just 20 minutes down the street from Green Bay.

I brought my dancing shoes, a couple of pair of sandals that I could dance with and wore sneakers. Water puddles in some areas through the festival grounds and trickled through small ditch dug around the area to divert the flow from the tents.

The rain a subsided but know sign of sunshine today. I never thought in my wildest dreams that in mid-summer I would be wearing a pair of jeans and jacket to dance. The chill in the air was just enough to make those clothes comfortable.

The floor were not waxed up and dancing in tennis shoes presented a challenge. Time to really lift those feet and legs up even if they were old and tire.

If the folks from Wisconsin could make it look easy, at least I could give it try.

The music was great. Four bands played the first day. This festival celebrated young people in Polka. There were two stages (big tents) with wooden floors laid of plywood or planks worn smooth from years of festival use.

One side of the stage had the old generation band and an hour later the young muscians played on the other side.

Roger Majeski and the Harmony Kings showed seasoned talent while Aaron Socha's Livewire carried on the tradition.

Marosxek Brothers played classical polkas while the related but younger New Generation set the stage a fire with their energy and new approach to traditional music.

Here are some examples.
